Have you ever thought about what is would be like to live a holistic life? Often times, we as humans strive to live a life in which we are content. We want to have the “American Dream”. When we think of success, we think of having a nice car, big house, and successful job. It is rare that you hear people talk about wanting to be mentally stable. Living a holistic life allows you to be mentally, physically, and emotionally content with the environment around you. Having contentment is one of the best things anyone can have, because it allows you to have a sense of peace.
When people talk about being content, they often get it confused with being complacent. Contentment is being happy in the state you are in with the drive to work on being better, while being complacent means you do not have a drive to want to achieve more. When talking about maximizing ones potential, how can you know what your potential may be? Well the answer is simple. You have to know who you are before you maximize your potential.
With so many distractions around us, it seems easy to get caught up in things that can tear us down. This includes relationships, friendships, and even our jobs. We get caught up in trying to please everyone, except the one person that matters. Gandhi said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” If these three things are not in harmony, there is no way you can be happy. Without happiness, you will not be able to reach your maximum potential.
So how do you reach your potential? Well the first thing is knowing your worth. If you do not know your worth, then you do not know anything. You also have to be truthful with yourself. Is that relationship or blockage in your life worth your success? If it is not, then it is time to let it go. Learn how to appreciate the stage of life you are in right now. Understand that it will not be like that forever if you make the necessary sacrifices. The last thing is believe in something. Being a Christian believer, I thing it is important to have some type of faith. I am not hear to shove religion down your throat, but believe in something. It is impossible to go through life happily without a strong faith.
As you continue to grow, remember that life is a game. Not all the time will you win, but when you do, make it worth your while. We have all been dealt bad cards, but that does not mean you have to give up. Remember to always be proactive in order to be productive.
